This Georgia Peach drink is a fruity peach cocktail with peach schnapps, rum, and cranberry juice. It’s an idea I created when I had some peach schnapps left over from a batch of Fuzzy Navels, and it turned out even better than that classic 1980s drink!

In fact, if you’ve got peach schnapps on hand, I’d recommend this cocktail over that retro one anyway. This summery cocktail is light and deliciously peachy, balancing that line of sweet and tart with ease. It makes a statement with its two-toned pink and peach colors, too.

What’s in a Georgia Peach?

Now, there is a popular chain restaurant that makes a Georgia Peach — Cheesecake Factory — but this one’s not a copycat. In fact, I think you’ll like my version even better.

Here’s what you’ll need for the Georgia Peach:

  • Peach schnapps
  • White rum
  • Orange juice
  • Cranberry juice

More about peach schnapps

This Georgia Peach drink is delightfully peachy, but uses no peaches at all! Peach schnapps is what gives this one that peach essence.

Peach schnapps, made by adding peach flavoring to a clear grain spirit, was introduced in 1984 by DeKuyper and quickly became the top-selling schnapps in America. The flavor is intensely fruity and peachy. One sip tastes like taking a bite of 10 peaches at once!

While it’s known as the main ingredient in a Fuzzy Navel, I think there are better uses for peach schnapps than just that 1980s brunch drink. It brings a beautifully fruity flavor to drinks like this one that I think you’ll agree are an upgrade.

Two juices for a two-toned color

The other key to this Georgia Peach drink is a pair of juices, and neither of them is peach. Here’s what to know about the juice components:

  • Fresh-squeezed orange juice brings a peachy color. Don’t worry, it won’t taste like orange! The schnapps brings the peach flavor, and the OJ brings the color. Use no-sugar-added juice if you can’t make it fresh.
  • Pour cranberry juice into the middle. This makes a lovely pink streak that dissipates while drinking. It makes the fun two-toned effect.

The basic steps

You don’t even need a cocktail shaker to make a Georgia Peach. You can build it right in the glass! Here’s what to do:

  1. Add the peach schnapps, rum, and orange juice to an ice-filled lowball glass and stir. If you can, make a batch of clear ice in advance. It’s crystal clear ice you can cut into organic shapes, and it really makes the drink.
  2. Pour in the cranberry juice. This two-toned drink is so easy. Just pour the cranberry juice down the center. It makes a lovely effect, and you can stir it if you prefer a more uniform color.
  3. Garnish! Use a fresh peach slice if you can find it, but it’s not required. Fresh mint looks lovely and adds a nice color contrast.

When to serve a Georgia Peach

The Georgia Peach is a great summery drink, but since it’s not dependent on fresh fruit, it easily works in any season! Serve it as a:

  • Summer drink
  • Happy hour drink
  • Signature drink
  • Girls’ or guys’ night drink
  • Cocktail hour drink

Tried this recipe and it came out beautiful. I don’t like much sweet so added a dash of lime to it. Cranberry gives a lovely shade and it doesn’t sunk if poured carefully. A nice and light cocktail 🍹

  2. Markeeta B says:

Could you make this as a large batch? Trying to do a drink for a football party, we have a TN and Bama drink, this would be fun for Georgia!

    1. Alex Overhiser says:

Yes, if you change “ounces” to “cups” it’s an 8 serving recipe.

  3. Philly says:

Made this cocktail with 4 different people which the cranberry juice sunk to the bottle each time. The photo is misleading.
