I’m all about great cocktail recipes that pull from the classics and are crafted with perfectly styled garnishes. But I’m also all about easy cocktails that come together in a flash!

Sometimes you have time to plan ahead, but when you just want a sipper for the patio, you can have a quick, tasty drink using just 2 ingredients: tequila and pineapple juice. This one is ready in just two minutes!

Mixing tequila and pineapple

Pineapple juice is a stellar cocktail mixer because of its aggressive, sweet-tart flavor. It holds up perfectly to the tequila, which adds a spicy bite to the finish of each sip.

In fact, it’s quickly become one of my favorite ways to mix tequila. This drink comes together in a flash, and you can make it look like a legit craft cocktail with way more components.

Here’s the simple ratio: You’ll need 2 ounces of tequila to 3 ounces of pineapple juice. That’s it! I’ll add some ideas about garnishes and optional add-ins, but the basics couldn’t be simpler.

Step it up with add-ons

You absolutely don’t have to add anything to turn this one into a fancy cocktail. It’s delicious on its own. But if you’re up for classing it up, here are a few options:

  • Add clear ice! This is crystal clear ice that you can cut into organic shapes, making it look more impressive than cloudy ice from a tray. Follow my steps to making clear ice at home.
  • Add garnishes. A sprig of fresh mint is lovely, or add lime wedges. (Give them a squeeze before you add them.)
  • Shake in a few dashes of bitters. Cocktail bitters give a drink a little more complexity. Depending on the kind you use, your cocktail can have a hint of herbs, fruit, or spice.

The best tequilas

With a drink this simple, you can really use whatever tequila you have on hand. If you’re not sure where to start, here’s what to know about the different types of tequila:

  • Tequila reposado (aged) adds oaky vanilla notes. That’s another way to step up this drink! Aged tequila adds a hint of sophistication. It’s my top tequila for margaritas.
  • Tequila blanco (unaged) works too. Look for a mid-range bottle. I like Patron Silver, especially for my Patron Margarita.
Tequila

Make it a pineapple margarita!

This tequila and pineapple juice cocktail is just two ingredients away from a Pineapple Margarita. Add Cointreau and lime juice, and you’ve got the classic cocktail done up with a fruity twist.

You can also try my Pineapple Jalapeno Margarita or Spicy Pineapple Margarita, which have a hint of heat on the finish. Your call!
