Basil simple syrup is perfect for infusing a fresh, herbaceous flavor into cocktails and mocktails! Here’s how to make it at home.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar*
  • 1/2 cup basil leaves, tightly packed

Instructions

  1. Add the sugar and 1/2 cup water to a small saucepan and heat until a simmer, stirring to dissolve the sugar.
  2. Remove from the heat and stir in the basil leaves. Steep until syrup is room temperature, about 30 minutes. Remove the basil leaves. Refrigerate for up to 2 weeks; the flavor is better the fresher the syrup.

Notes

*Or double the batch if you have 1 cup basil leaves on hand; this makes enough for an entire pitcher of Basil Lemonade.
