Here’s how to make a bouquet garni! This French technique makes a bundle of herbs to flavor soups, stews and more.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 handful fresh thyme
  • 1 handful fresh parsley*

Instructions

  1. Use kitchen string to tie the herbs together, or place them in a small square of cheesecloth and tie the end. Place the bouquet garni directly into the soup or stew, then remove once it is cooked.

Notes

*Or, use any mix of fresh or dried herbs you like! Other good options include rosemary, sage, tarragon, oregano, chervil or savory. If using dried herbs, you can use approximately 2 to 3 tablespoons of each dried herb.
