What’s the easiest thing to do with Malibu coconut rum? Make Malibu and Pineapple! The two pair perfectly in a Malibu Sunset or Malibu Bay Breeze. But honestly, you don’t need all the extra ingredients. These essentials make one deliciously fun 2 ingredient tropical drink! The sweet tart pineapple pairs delightfully with the fruity coconut: it tastes like so much more than the sum of its parts. Throw in a drink umbrella because…why not?

Why mix Malibu and pineapple

Why mix Malibu and pineapple? The flavors compliment each other perfectly. After pineapple and coconut first debuted in the Classic Piña Colada, people have been mixing them together ever since. The tropical pineapple and fruity coconut go hand in hand. In fact, you don’t need another ingredient in this drink…at all! Here’s how to make a Malibu and Pineapple:

  • Mix 2 parts pineapple juice with 1 part Malibu coconut rum.
  • Stir together in a glass with ice.
  • Garnish!

Step it up: add garnishes

Two-ingredient drinks like Malibu and pineapple are so simple, they’re completely laid back when it comes to presentation. If you like, add them to a glass, stir and you’re done! But want to make Malibu and pineapple juice look a little fancier? Here’s what to do:

  • Add clear ice! It’s crystal clear ice that you can cut into organic shapes, making it look much more impressive than cloudy ice from a try. Here’s how to make clear ice, or you can use a clear ice machine to make it simple.
  • Add garnishes. Add a lime wedge or pineapple wedge if you have them. Or why not add a drink umbrella? (We got our drink umbrellas on Amazon.)
  • Shake in a few dashes bitters. Want to make the flavor more interesting? Cocktail bitters give the drink a bit of complexity.

Or, make it a Malibu Sunset or Bay Breeze!

Want to turn this simple drink into a Malibu Sunrise or Bay Breeze? All you need are a few more ingredients. Here’s what do to:

  • Grab unsweetened cranberry juice! You’ll pour it in a layer on top. Go to Malibu Bay Breeze.
  • Grab orange juice and grenadine! This makes a lovely gradient with colors of the sunrise. Go to Malibu Sunrise.

More about Malibu coconut rum

Malibu Coconut Rum is the most common type of coconut rum on the market. But did you know it’s not technically rum? Here’s what to know about Malibu:

  • Malibu Coconut Rum is considered a coconut-flavored liqueur. Why? Well, Malibu has lots of added sugar and a low alcohol level: it’s only 21% ABV. In contrast, rum has no sugar and a 40% ABV. So, it’s more of a liqueur (here are the technical definitions).
  • Malibu Coconut Rum was launched in 1982 as a way for bartenders to simplify making the Piña Colada. It’s the most popular brand, but you can find other types of coconut rum, like Bacardi, Capitan Morgan, and so forth.
