Looking for a unique cocktail and love a good PB&J? Try the Peanut Butter and Jelly drink, a quirky sweet tart cocktail made with Skrewball peanut butter whiskey. Mixing it with cranberry juice makes the cocktail version of your favorite childhood sandwich! It’s a classic way to use this flavored nutty whiskey, and after sipping it…we’re here for it.

What’s a Peanut Butter and Jelly drink?

The Peanut Butter and Jelly is a cocktail that stars Skrewball peanut butter whiskey and cranberry juice. Some people like to use berry liqueur in this drink (like Chambord), but it makes it much too sweet.

For our spin, we took inspiration from the co-founder of Skrewball herself, Brittany Yeng, who recommends pairing this flavored whiskey with cranberry juice to cut the sweetness. Tart cranberry pairs perfectly with nutty Skrewball to mimic the flavor of that nostalgic childhood favorite! Here’s what you’ll need for this drink:

  • Skrewball peanut butter whiskey
  • Cranberry juice
  • Cointreau (or other orange liqueur)

Simply shake all ingredients together in a cocktail shaker, and strain into a glass. Give it a taste and it’s sweet tart and berry forward, with a deliciously nutty finish. It’s a fun way to mix up this unique flavored whiskey. Here’s a bit more about the ingredients…

Use 100% unsweetened cranberry juice

Make sure to look for 100% unsweetened cranberry juice in this Peanut Butter and Jelly cocktail. There are a few types of cranberry juice on the market. Here’s what to know about it:

  • Bottles marked cranberry juice or cranberry juice cocktail have lots of added sugar. This makes too much sugar for this drink.
  • 100% unsweetened cranberry juice makes a balanced flavor. It also gives a more beautiful vibrant color.

Cointreau is an orange liqueur that you might have on hand for making a Margarita (or other Cointreau drinks). What does it do here?

  • Cointreau adds a roundness to the flavor. It gives the sip more sophistication and complexity, and in some way makes it taste more like…Peanut Butter and Jelly!
  • Don’t have it? Substitute any orange liqueur, like Triple Sec or Grand Marnier.

All about Skrewball whiskey

If you’re looking at this recipe, we assume you probably have a bottle of Skrewball at home. Skrewball whiskey is a flavored whiskey that tastes like peanut butter. Here’s a bit more about this intriguing type of whiskey:

  • Skrewball peanut butter whiskey is a flavored whiskey made with real peanuts. The company was founded by husband and wife team Steven and Brittany Yeng, based in San Diego, California. Skrewball launched in 2018 and has become very popular in the US.
  • Skrewball has a thick, sticky texture. It tastes very sweet, with a strong peanut finish and notes of caramel, coffee and vanilla. Honestly, it’s more like drinking Baileys than bourbon.
  • Is Skrewball really a whiskey? You might ask this after tasting it. It’s so sweet, it barely tastes like whiskey at all! Whiskey technically should be 40% ABV when it’s bottled, and Skrewball is 35% ABV. It’s labeled as a “flavored whiskey,” so you can go with that.

Have fun with the garnish!

Once you’ve made the drink, it’s fun to get creative with the garnish! Here are a few ideas:

  • Blackberry smeared with peanut butter (pictured)
  • Skewer with raspberries
  • Tiny PB&J sandwich
